AFTERSHOCK is a science/documentary series about the not-so-distant future, presented by Richard Fidler (Ex Doug Anthony Allstars, Race Around the World, Mouthing Off, The Big Gig).
Each episode looks at the shocking implications of the future that's rushing towards us... ready or not. Superhumanity, Artificial Intelligence, Eternal Life, Human Cloning, Virtual Reality and the weirdest thing coming our way - Nanotechnology: these are some of the issues that are barrelling towards us with the force of a freight train.
There are some fascinating issues and dilemmas about our 'trans-human' future that have been debated by specialists - scientists, politicians, business leaders, environmentalists. It's only now that these astonishing changes are just about to hit us that the debate is starting to bubble up from the experts and into the community at large.
AFTERSHOCK uses comedy, international experts and a studio forum to debate the real ramifications of these future trends. What counts is how they will affect the average person in a concrete, day-to-day sense.
AFTERSHOCK moves beyond the science genre. In fact it’s not a science show at all. No irrelevant new inventions or medical advances so narrow they will only apply to a fraction of the population at some indefinite point in the future.
Instead, AFTERSHOCK is about things that are happening right now - told with humour, debate and skepticism in a way that everyone can understand. It’s not so much a show about technology – it’s about the effects these alarming breakthroughs will have on everyday life.
