Now in its fourth season, Bondi Rescue follows the work of the elite
professional Lifeguards who patrol Australia’s busiest beach.
The full-time council lifeguards - the boys in blue - patrol Bondi seven
days a week, 365 days a year. A single lifeguard at Bondi Beach will sometimes
save twenty people from drowning in one day. These professional watermen
pull swimmers, surfers and fishermen from treacherous seas in a job where
minutes, even seconds, matter.
A day in the life of the highly trained lifeguards can involve surf rescues,
dealing with drug-affected people bag thieves, lost children, punch-ups,
spinal injuries, body retrievals and even scaring away sharks.
The lifeguards are among the best watermen in Australia and are mostly
“locals” who know the rips, currents and dangers of Bondi
better than anyone. They combine ‘mateship and vigilance’
in a unique work culture.
The mix of high drama, great characters and an exotic location combine
to create one of the most popular factual series on Australian television.
On a beach where the majority of visitors are tourists, it’s not
surprising the series is now reaching a huge international audience.
