BONDI
Drama unfolds as we meet Jody Kennedy, an aspiring teenage actress struggling to cope with her sick mother. There is comedy and tragedy too as Chris Sully, a brain-damaged Englishman, searches for his soul mate. There’s also Annalise Braakenseik, a bronzed swimwear model, Rash the surfing comedian and Bill Symonds a salt-of-the-earth Bondi old timer.
We are led through the series by the witty and often acerbic commentary of one of Australia's pre-eminent cartoonists, Bill Leak – a Bondi cartoonist himself.
Bondi is lively and highly intimate. By shotting with small crews and unobtrusive equipment, the filmmakers have achieved a high level of rapport with the characters.
The series is also a celebration of Bondi’s unique physical environment, the sweltering summer with huge storms occasionally lashing the coast, spectacular surfing footage and the endless parade of bodies on the beach.
