The NSW Police Force is one of the largest forces in the world, consisting of 15,000 officers in five hundred local police stations and covering an area of 801,600 square kilometres. There’s a population of eight million people in NSW to serve and protect.
‘Recruits’ is an observational documentary series following 2 groups of police. The first group are policing students who embark on the gruelling 6-month journey towards becoming police officers at the Police College in Goulburn.
The series follows this group of trainee officers from their initial moments as civilians, leaving family and friends, and making personal and financial sacrifices in chasing their dream to be in the blue. We’ll be with them as they tackle their first fitness assessment, the first time firing their weapon and witness how the police transform the motley group of civilians that turn up on Day 1 into police officers ready for the dangerous and challenging situations they’ll face on the street.
It’s a 6-month job interview... The students are tested academically, physically and mentally but the essential ingredient is integrity above all else. It’s certainly not for everyone.. it’s very tough, some won’t make it through.
The second group the series follows are recruits that have graduated from Goulburn and are hitting the beat for the first time as Probationary Constables. Under the guidance of an experienced officer they’ll be expected to apply what they learnt at police college in the real world and we’ll be there as they put what they’ve learnt into practice. The Goulburn college can only do so much, the toughest lessons will be learnt on the street.
With unprecedented access to the New South Wales Police college and its recruits, Recruits will give audiences a rare glimpse at what’s required of the people we entrust to keep the peace and uphold the law.
