STUPID STUPID MAN Visit TV1's Stupid Stupid Man website here. The action is centred in and around the office of a monthly men's magazine, COQ - part of a big publishing company not unlike ACP - and even though it is called ACP it most definitely is not THE ACP. The central characters are four men who work in the office and the two women who have to put up with them. But all the people who work on Coq - to varying degrees - are proud of their magazine. Even the most cynical still care about whether Coq will survive the highly competitive men's magazine market. And, make no mistake, it's a jungle out there.
Coq is a publication whose pages are large and glossy, whose advertisements adhere to a certain level of 'good taste' and whose readership generally believes that the mag for which they're shelling out twelve bucks a month has a degree of sophistication - and that this quality is lacking in Coq's down-market competitors (like Ralph, Zoo, Fuel and Picture). But this veneer of sophistication can sometimes be tissue thin - especially when the staff are running short on ideas. Like the time they ran the piece about 'Famous People Whose Mouths Look Like Ringholes!' or the time they ran the two page spread titled 'The Penis - Mightier Than The Sword' - actually a typo. It should have read, 'The Pen is Mightier Than The Sword' but no one picked up the mistake. The penis line is the type of story the proof reader would have expected! But while the magazine world gives us the backdrop for the series, it is really about any workplace. Stupid Stupid Man was commissioned especially for Foxtel's TV1 channel (and is now broadcast on ABC1). Visit the TV1 website here for more details.
