Australian of the Year, TIM FLANNERY and TV/radio personality JOHN DOYLE (Roy & HG) from the ABC’s “TWO MEN IN A TINNIE” series are on the search for characters and stories in the Top End.
The two are heading north on a cross-country journey for ABC TV that will see them explore the Top End of Australia all the way from Cooktown to Broome.
With climate change and the national water crisis at the forefront of their minds Tim and John aim to explore the Top End and the promise it holds in a picaresque and timely five-part series. It will be a journey through cattle country, ancient fossil fields, rugged savannah and massive irrigation schemes, with stories of gold, uranium and vast beer consumption as they travel the Savannah Highway with the trusty Bismarck strapped to the roof. The first leg of the journey begins in late November.
“Climate change forecasts suggest that the southern part of Australia will get drier and that the future may well lie in the Top End”, says John Doyle. “Tim and I are going to be checking out whether it’s time to book a removalist.”
Experiencing both the “Big Wet” and the “Big Dry” on this eclectic journey our enviro-conscience travellers hope to meet colourful characters along the way who can share stories of life in the Top End and the future of this last frontier. From the latest wave of people seeking their fortune in the north to the Indigenous Australians who were the first to settle its vast expanse – this is a chance to be part of an unique television series.
